3 Days in Tokyo (with Tour Prices Compared)
A short first visit to Tokyo in late autumn: a day in the city with a digital art museum and a night in Shinjuku's tiny bars, one day out to Mt Fuji, and a sumo show in Asakusa to finish. Every paid stop is a tour we compared across three booking sites, and the gaps are free time.
Day 1: teamLab Planets and a Shinjuku night
- Morning: teamLab Planets in Toyosu. It's the same timed ticket on every site, and cheapest on Klook, from US$23.99 (some October and November slots from US$26.49; 4.7 from 21.8K). GetYourGuide's ticket was from about $26–27 (4.6 from about 14,600), and Viator's (4.6 from 379) showed no price. Tickets are non-refundable and for a set entry time, and you walk barefoot through water, so wear clothes you can roll up.
- Afternoon: rest, or wander a neighborhood near your hotel (free).
- Evening: Shinjuku bar hopping. MagicalTrip's 3-hour tour through Omoide Yokocho, Kabukicho and Golden Gai, with dinner and drinks at three bars, was about US$117.35 on Klook (4.8 from 100) and about $125.28 on Viator (4.9 from 2,999). You must be 20 or older.
Day 2: Mt Fuji day trip
- All day: Mt Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko by coach. The cheapest and most reviewed was Klook's Mount Fuji Magnificent Scenery day tour, about US$50.95 (4.9 from 12.3K), with Arakurayama Sengen Park, Oishi Park and Oshino Hakkai. If you want the Kachi Kachi Ropeway, GetYourGuide's ropeway and matcha tour was from $53 (4.6 from 240), and Viator's full-day trip from about $69.72. Expect 10 to 12 hours, and almost 400 steps at the pagoda viewpoint.
- Or swap in: Hakone. Klook's Hakone and Fuji day tour with the Lake Ashi pirate ship, the ropeway and Owakudani was from about US$44.29 (up to US$63.79 by date and package; 4.8 from about 8,000). The pirate-ship fare may be extra depending on the package. GetYourGuide's Hakone tour was from $55 and Viator's from about $110.
- Evening: back in Tokyo, an easy dinner and early night (free).
Day 3: Asakusa and a sumo show
- Morning: walk Asakusa and Senso-ji temple (free). (Not one of the tours we compared.)
- Midday: the Asakusa sumo show with chanko hot pot. Retired wrestlers, a demonstration and all-you-can-eat chicken hot pot, about two hours. The lowest US-dollar price was Klook, from US$101.25 for standard seats (front row US$126.35). GetYourGuide showed from €90 (4.8 from about 8,590) and Viator from about US$114.92 (4.8 from 837). Check the show times for your date (times unverified); it doubles as lunch.
- Afternoon and evening: free. Shopping, a river walk, or packing.
Rough cost per person
| Item | Cheapest site | From |
|---|---|---|
| teamLab Planets ticket | Klook | $23.99 |
| Shinjuku bar-hopping tour (dinner and drinks) | Klook | about $117.35 |
| Mt Fuji day tour | Klook | about $50.95 |
| Asakusa sumo show with hot pot | Klook | $101.25 |
| Total, paid tours | about $294 |
That's $23.99 + $117.35 + $50.95 + $101.25 = $293.54 in "from" prices, before taxes, fees, other meals, hotel and transport. Skipping the bar tour brings it to $176.19, and swapping Fuji for the Hakone tour saves about $6.66 at its lowest price.
Skip if…
- Skip the bar tour if you don't drink much or are under 20; it's the priciest item. The 2-hour Golden Gai crawl on GetYourGuide was about £74 but had only 5 reviews.
- Skip the Fuji day if the forecast is cloudy, since the mountain can hide all day. Keep it flexible and move it to whichever day looks clearest.
- Skip the sumo show if you want a real tournament; reviewers call it fun and family-friendly but more entertainment than a serious match.
- Skip teamLab if you dislike crowds or getting your feet wet; save it as a rainy-day backup instead.
A November note: autumn leaves, clearer Fuji views
One Klook Fuji tour adds the Lake Kawaguchiko autumn-leaves corridor from November 1 to 30 (subject to official notice), and its page says Fuji is generally easier to see in the colder months than in summer. Late autumn is busy, so book the Fuji day and the sumo show a few days ahead. Japanese law limits commercial vehicles to 10 hours, so heavy traffic can shorten stops on coach tours.
