Bali and Indonesia Tours Compared: Mount Batur, Nusa Penida, Ubud, Uluwatu, the Gili Islands, Komodo, Borobudur and Bromo-Ijen (Viator vs GetYourGuide vs Klook)
Viator prices and ratings come from Viator's partner data, and GetYourGuide's from its listing pages, all read between about 6:30 and 6:50 AM Pacific time on Oct 25. Klook blocks automated checks, so we link the Klook listings we found without a price. "From" means the lowest date or option, which can leave out entry fees, meals, pickup or tips, and private-tour prices change with group size. Prices are in US dollars as shown; GetYourGuide rounds to the dollar. Always confirm the live price for your dates before you book.
Indonesia came up more than any other destination we haven't covered recently in the past day's travel questions: a couple planning three weeks across Java, the Gili Islands, Bali and Komodo, a traveler weighing Southeast Asia for Christmas and New Year, and a discussion about finding a less touristy Bali. Many of the popular tours, from the Nusa Penida manta day to Borobudur at sunrise, are sold by the same local companies on Viator and GetYourGuide, with similar tours on Klook. We matched 25 of them so you can compare before you book.
The short answer
- GetYourGuide had the lowest "from" price in 14 of 25 rows, often by a few dollars, for example the Mount Batur hike ($27 vs $30) and the Lovina dolphin trip ($14 vs $17.57). The biggest gap was Hire Bali Driver's Ubud private day ($18 vs $65).
- Viator was cheaper in 10 rows, and by about $29 on both Nusa Penida manta days: Bluuu Tours ($73.12 vs $102) and Indo Compass ($70 vs $99). The Tanah Lot sunset tour was $13 vs $20.
- The Bromo and Ijen train tour cost the same, $185, on both.
- Klook has a similar tour in all 25 rows, such as the Mount Batur trek and the Kecak ticket, but we couldn't confirm any Klook prices.
What the "from" price leaves out
- Entry and park fees: the Borobudur tour excludes Borobudur and Prambanan entry, the Komodo speedboat day excludes national park and snorkeling fees, the Kecak ticket excludes Uluwatu Temple admission, and the Sekumpul tour excludes the trekking guide fee (IDR 150,000–250,000 per person).
- Food: lunch is extra on the Nusa Penida land day, the Gili snorkel trip and the Bromo sunrise day; it's included on the Bluuu manta day, the Hire Bali Driver Ubud tour and the Ayung rafting trip.
- Pickup: the ATV ride only includes hotel transfers if you choose that option, and the Bluuu day charges extra outside its shuttle points.
- Tips are extra, as listed on the Batur hike and the Uluwatu sunset tour.

Lowest "from" price we saw: the sunrise hike with breakfast on GetYourGuide, from $27 (4.8 from 11,556 reviews), against from $30.00 for a very similar hike on Viator (4.9 from 2,049 reviews). The company names are close (Your Bali Trekking Tour and CV Bali Trekking Tour) but not identical, so we treat them as similar. Viator's listing includes a summit breakfast, hot drinks while you wait for sunrise, trekking poles and a flashlight. Klook sells a similar sunrise trek.
Adding a hot spring flips the result: the hike with hot spring option on Viator was from $33.00 (4.9 from 2,222 reviews), against from $35 for the hike and hot spring on GetYourGuide (4.8 from 10,372 reviews). If you'd rather not hike, a sunrise jeep tour on Viator was from $19.84 (5.0 from 1,820 reviews) and a private sunrise jeep tour with hot spring on GetYourGuide from $45 (4.8 from 4,842 reviews); Klook has a similar jeep tour with hot spring.
Nusa Penida and the manta rays
Lowest "from" price we saw: Bluuu Tours' premium day with manta snorkeling, yacht and Kelingking land tour on Viator, from $73.12 (4.9 from 10,840 reviews), against from $102 for the same company's premium day on GetYourGuide (4.9 from 1,045 reviews). That's about $29 less on Viator. Viator's listing includes up to 4 snorkel spots, lunch with pool access, GoPro photos and the boat; hotel pickup outside its shuttle points costs extra. Klook sells a same-named premium day.
Indo Compass shows the same pattern: its manta snorkeling and land tour on Viator was from $70.00 (4.9 from 2,696 reviews), against from $99 for the same company's tour on GetYourGuide (4.9 from 3,045 reviews). Klook has a similar manta and west Penida tour.
A Nusa Penida land day
Lowest "from" price we saw: the west and east highlights day on GetYourGuide, from $32 (4.7 from 8,561 reviews), against from $49.88 for a similar west and east day on Viator (4.6 from 485 reviews). They're run by different companies. Viator's listing includes the fast boat, a private car with a driver and entrance tickets, but not lunch. Klook sells a similar west and east day tour and a popular west Penida day trip.
Ubud: waterfalls, rice terraces and the Monkey Forest
Lowest "from" price we saw: Hire Bali Driver's private waterfall, rice terrace and Monkey Forest tour on GetYourGuide, from $18 (4.9 from 5,106 reviews), against from $65.00 for the same company's same-named tour on Viator (5.0 from 123 reviews). That was the biggest gap in the table. Private-tour prices depend on group size, so check the total for your group on both. Klook has a similar Ubud private day.
The most-reviewed Ubud day on Viator, Bali Driver Seminyak's rice terraces, temples and waterfalls tour, was from $38.00 (5.0 from 17,713 reviews) and includes the jungle swing, lunch and entrance fees. A similar private tour on GetYourGuide was from $18 (4.9 from 7,443 reviews). Klook sells a similar Ubud private day.
Uluwatu and the Kecak fire dance
Lowest "from" price we saw: the Kecak show and Uluwatu Temple entry ticket on GetYourGuide, from $9 (4.2 from 4,498 reviews), against from $11.50 for a Kecak ticket on Viator (3.8 from 275 reviews), which leaves out temple admission. Both have mixed ratings, and Klook's Kecak ticket is another option.
For a guided evening, Eco Bali Tours' private Uluwatu sunset tour with Kecak and dinner on Viator was from $31.50 (4.9 from 4,518 reviews); the temple fee, show ticket and Jimbaran seafood dinner are only included if you pick that option. A similar sunset, Kecak and Jimbaran tour on GetYourGuide was from $39 (4.7 from 3,317 reviews). Klook sells a similar Uluwatu sunset tour.
ATV rides and Ayung River rafting
Lowest "from" price we saw: Gorilla Adventures Bali's ATV and Ayung rafting trip with a meal on GetYourGuide, from $16 (4.8 from 7,581 reviews), against from $17.01 for a similar ATV and rafting combo under a near-identical company name on Viator (5.0 from 5 reviews). Its ATV ride with lunch was from $22 on GetYourGuide (4.8 from 7,395 reviews) and from $25.51 on Viator (5.0 from 37 reviews). The Viator listings have very few reviews so far. Klook sells a similar ATV and rafting combo and a similar Ubud ATV ride.
Rafting only: a guided Ayung rafting trip with lunch on GetYourGuide was from $18 (4.8 from 496 reviews), against from $22.50 for a similar trip with pickup and buffet lunch on Viator (4.9 from 638 reviews). Klook has Ayung white water rafting.
East Bali: Blue Lagoon and the Gates of Heaven
Lowest "from" price we saw: the Blue Lagoon snorkeling and waterfall tour on GetYourGuide, from $16 (4.7 from 879 reviews), against from $42.00 for an all-inclusive Blue Lagoon snorkel on Viator (4.8 from 3,341 reviews) with a private car, lunch and gear. Klook sells a similar Blue Lagoon snorkel.
For the famous temple gate, the Besakih and Lempuyang Gates of Heaven tour on GetYourGuide was from $30 (4.8 from 3,796 reviews), against from $39.00 for a similar east Bali day with Lempuyang and Besakih on Viator (4.8 from 77 reviews). Klook has a similar Lempuyang day trip.
West and north Bali: Tanah Lot, Sekumpul and Lovina
Lowest "from" price we saw: TripGuru's Tanah Lot sunset half-day on Viator, from $13.00 (3.9 from 19 reviews), against from $20 for the same tour on GetYourGuide (4.5 from 835 reviews), which has far more reviews. The same company's Sekumpul waterfalls and Ulun Danu tour was from $25.00 on Viator and from $29 on GetYourGuide (4.7 from 488 reviews); Viator's listing notes the Sekumpul trekking guide fee is extra. For dolphins, Saka Bali Putu Tour's Lovina sunrise dolphin trip on GetYourGuide was from $14 (4.7 from 3,179 reviews), against from $17.57 for the same company's dolphin trip on Viator (4.7 from 89 reviews). Klook has a similar Lovina dolphin trip.
A Balinese cooking class
Lowest "from" price we saw: Pemulan Bali's farm cooking class on Viator, from $36.85 (5.0 from 482 reviews), a few cents under from $37 for the same class on GetYourGuide (5.0 from 2,169 reviews). It's one of the best-rated activities in this table on both sites. Klook sells a similar Ubud cooking class.
Snorkeling the Gili Islands
Lowest "from" price we saw: Blissful Paradise Indonesia's Gili snorkeling trip on Viator, from $14.17 (4.6 from 84 reviews), against from $15 for the same company's boat tour on GetYourGuide (4.7 from 3,855 reviews). Viator's listing includes a glass-bottom boat, gear and a shared GoPro; lunch is extra. Klook has a similar 3-Gili snorkel trip.
Komodo National Park
Lowest "from" price we saw: the Komodo Island day tour with snorkeling on GetYourGuide, from $86 (4.7 from 1,969 reviews), against from $125.59 for an early-start speedboat day on Viator (4.8 from 1,122 reviews). Different companies run them. Viator's listing leaves out the national park, snorkeling and island fees, so budget for those. Klook sells a similar speedboat day tour.
Java: Borobudur, Bromo and Ijen
Lowest "from" price we saw: Hati Tour and Transport's Borobudur sunrise climb and Prambanan tour on GetYourGuide, from $17 (4.9 from 2,217 reviews), against from $20.69 for the same company's tour on Viator (5.0 from 174 reviews). Viator's listing includes the climb-up access but not the Borobudur and Prambanan entry fees. Klook has a similar Borobudur sunrise tour.
Explore Java Indonesia's 3-day Bromo and Ijen tour by train from Yogyakarta was from $185 on GetYourGuide (4.9 from 49 reviews) and from $185.00 on Viator, a tie. It includes the train, two nights' lodging, the Bromo jeep and a gas mask for Ijen, and can drop you in Bali. Klook sells a similar multi-day Bromo and Ijen tour.
Shorter options: a Bromo sunrise day on Viator was from $25.51 (4.9 from 906 reviews), against from $40 for a similar shared Bromo sunrise tour on GetYourGuide (4.7 from 769 reviews). From Bali, the Ijen sunrise hike on GetYourGuide was from $106 (4.9 from 251 reviews), against from $155.00 for a private overnight Ijen trek on Viator (4.9 from 144 reviews). Which tours fit your kind of trip
Three weeks across Java, the Gilis, Bali and Komodo
One couple has about three weeks from late November, starting in Jakarta and Yogyakarta, then Bromo and Ijen, the Gilis, Ubud, Komodo and Uluwatu. In Yogyakarta the Borobudur sunrise climb was $17. The 3-day Bromo and Ijen tour by train ($185 on either site) gets you from Yogyakarta to Bali. On the Gilis, a group snorkel trip was $14.17, and a Komodo day trip $86. Late November to mid-December falls in the rainy season, so leave some slack around boat days.
A first Christmas or New Year trip to Bali
Another traveler from Europe is weighing Southeast Asia for about 12 days over the holidays. Bali alone fills that: a Mount Batur sunrise hike ($27), a Nusa Penida manta day ($73.12 on Viator), an Ubud private day ($18) and a Kecak show at Uluwatu ($9). Holiday dates are busy, so book early and pick listings with free cancellation.
Looking for a less touristy Bali
People often ask for "authentic" or "non-touristy" Bali, which means different things to different people. North Bali's Sekumpul waterfalls ($25.00) and Lovina dolphins ($14) are far from the south coast crowds, and the farm cooking class ($36.85) takes you into a village. Expect a queue for photos at Lempuyang.
Divers and social travelers
If you're weighing Indonesia again for diving and meeting people, group trips are cheap: the Gili snorkel trip was $14.17, the Komodo day trip $86, and the ATV and rafting combo $16.
Booking tips
- Match the company name. Bluuu Tours (manta day), TripGuru (Tanah Lot), Hati Tour and Transport (Borobudur) and others sell the same tour on both sites, and prices still differed by up to $47.
- Price private tours for your group. On tours like the Ubud private day the per-person price changes with group size, so compare the total for your group.
- Check review counts. Some Viator listings, such as the Gorilla ATV and rafting combo and the Bromo and Ijen train tour, have only a handful of reviews; the same companies have thousands on GetYourGuide.
- Watch for WhatsApp. Many local operators confirm by WhatsApp; the Bromo sunrise day asks you to message at least 3 days before.
- Free cancellation is common. Every Viator listing in our table, from the Batur hike to the Ijen trek, gives a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours ahead. Check each GetYourGuide listing, such as the Komodo day trip, for its own terms.
