Costa Rica This Winter: Best-Value Tours in Arenal, Monteverde, Manuel Antonio and Guanacaste Compared (Viator vs GetYourGuide vs Klook)
Viator prices and ratings come from Viator's partner data, and GetYourGuide's from its listing pages or search results, all read just after midnight Pacific time on Oct 21. Klook blocks automated checks and we couldn't confirm any Klook Costa Rica price, so we link Klook's listings without a price. "From" means the lowest date or option, which can leave out lunch, hotel pickup or park tickets. Prices are in US dollars as shown. Always confirm the live price for your dates before you book.
Costa Rica trip-planning questions were everywhere this week. One couple can only fit in Arenal or Monteverde, not both. Another wants a night hike near Monteverde in mid-November. A solo traveler wants to learn to surf, someone landing in Liberia wonders whether to stop at Río Celeste on the way to La Fortuna, and families with small kids want easy wildlife days. The tours they ask about, from the Místico hanging bridges and sloth walks to Monteverde ziplines, a guided walk in Manuel Antonio and Rincón de la Vieja, are sold on Viator and GetYourGuide, often by the same company at different prices. We matched them so you can compare before you book.
The short answer
- GetYourGuide had the lowest "from" price in 5 of 10 rows, mostly around La Fortuna: Red Lava TSC's full Arenal day ($95 vs $105 on Viator), its morning volcano hike with hot springs ($55 vs $60), its Río Celeste hike ($76 vs $89), the Bogarín Trail sloth walk ($45 vs $55) and a Monteverde night walk ($32).
- Viator was cheapest in 3: a Manuel Antonio guided walk from $22.95, La Muda's Tamarindo surf lesson from $54 and Calypso's extreme zipline by one cent.
- Two were ties: the Místico hanging bridges guided walk ($54) and a Rincón de la Vieja volcano day ($125).
- We found only a few Klook tours in Costa Rica, mostly departures from the Guanacaste beaches such as Rincón de la Vieja, an Arenal day trip and a sloth and waterfall day. We couldn't confirm their prices.
What the "from" price leaves out
- Manuel Antonio park tickets: the cheapest guided walks cover the guide only. The listing says tickets are sold on the official SINAC site with passport details, so book yours early or choose a ticket-included option.
- Pickup area: Red Lava's full Arenal day includes park fees, lunch and the hot springs, but pickup is only in the La Fortuna area. From the coast, look at a Guanacaste departure instead.
- Options: the Manuel Antonio listings offer group and private options. The "from" price is for the cheapest one.

Best-value picks by activity
La Fortuna Waterfall, Arenal Volcano and hot springs in one day
Lowest "from" price we saw: Red Lava TSC on GetYourGuide, from $95 (4.8 from 3,895). The same company's full-day tour was from $105.00 on Viator (4.8 from 2,604). Arenal Jungle Tours runs a similar waterfall, volcano hike and hot springs day on Viator from $100.00 (4.9 from 621). We didn't find a La Fortuna-based version on Klook.
A shorter Arenal Volcano hike with hot springs
Lowest "from" price we saw: Red Lava TSC's morning tour on GetYourGuide, from $55 (4.6 from 1,092), against from $60.00 for the same morning hike, lunch and hot springs on Viator (4.6 from 87). Arenal Jungle Tours has a similar pair: morning or afternoon on GetYourGuide from $53 (4.5 from 57) and the morning version on Viator from $61.54 (4.8 from 292).
Místico Arenal Hanging Bridges
Lowest "from" price we saw: a tie at $54 for the park's own guided walk on Viator (4.7 from 1,694) and GetYourGuide (4.7 from 572). If you'd rather walk on your own, the admission ticket on GetYourGuide and the self-guided walk on Viator were both from $39. The guided walk costs $15 more; what you pay for is a guide who points out wildlife.
Río Celeste and Tenorio Volcano
Lowest "from" price we saw: Red Lava TSC on GetYourGuide, from $76 (4.7 from 703). The same company's Río Celeste hike on Viator was from $89.00 (4.8 from 535), and Arenal Jungle Tours' version with lunch was from $92.31 (4.9 from 346). These leave from La Fortuna. From the Guanacaste beaches, Native's Way's Río Celeste, sloth sanctuary and Llanos de Cortés waterfall day was from $135.00 on Viator (4.6 from 1,183).
Sloth watching in La Fortuna
Lowest "from" price we saw: Bogarín Trail on GetYourGuide, from $45 (4.8 from 447), against from $55.00 for the same trail's tour on Viator (4.9 from 370). Two other well-reviewed options: a sloth walk with a local snack on GetYourGuide from $39 (4.9 from 738), and Arenal Jungle Tours' sloth tour on Viator from $63.08 (5.0 from 2,088).
A night walk in Monteverde
Lowest "from" price in our matched row: the Kinkajou small-group night walk on GetYourGuide, from $32 (4.5 from 1,697), against from $41.00 for Johnny Loves Nature's night walk on Viator (4.6 from 400). These are different companies, so compare group size and pickup too. Cheaper still: a night walk with flashlights on GetYourGuide from $20 (4.7 from 453) and a small-group wildlife refuge night walk on Viator from $29.00 (4.9 from 88).
Ziplining in Monteverde
Lowest "from" price we saw: Calypso Adventures' 3-hour extreme zipline on Viator, from $99.99 (4.5 from 82), one cent under the same course on GetYourGuide at from $100 (4.7 from 368). For a cheaper ride, 100% Aventura's canopy tour on GetYourGuide was from $72 (4.8 from 840). The Original Canopy Tour on Viator was from $90.00 (4.9 from 1,477).
Manuel Antonio National Park
Lowest "from" price we saw: Mystique Nature Tours on Viator, from $22.95 (4.9 from 784). On GetYourGuide, a guided tour with an optional entrance ticket was on sale from $25, down from $35 (4.8 from 2,229), and Xplore Manuel Antonio's naturalist walk showed from $25, down from $39 (4.9 from 1,519). Costa Rica Jade Tours' longer walk on Viator has the most reviews we saw (4.8 from 4,590) and was from $49.00.
The lowest prices are for the guide only. Xplore's listing says the park ticket is sold only on the official SINAC website, needs each visitor's passport details, and sells out fast from December to April. Pick a ticket-included option or buy the ticket as soon as you book the guide.
A beginner surf lesson in Tamarindo
Lowest "from" price we saw: La Muda Surf's 2-hour lesson on Viator, from $54.00 (5.0 from 761), $1 under the same school on GetYourGuide at from $55 (4.9 from 48). The most-reviewed lesson we saw, Surf Lessons in Tamarindo on Viator (Iguana Turismo Aquatico), was from $69.00 with 2,803 reviews (4.9).
Rincón de la Vieja from the Guanacaste beaches
Lowest "from" price we saw: a tie at $125 between Native's Way's volcano hike, waterfall swim and hot springs day on Viator (4.7 from 797) and a similar day on GetYourGuide (4.8 from 26). Klook's Rincón de la Vieja walking tour is an 8-hour join-in trip with hotel pickup, but we couldn't see its price.
Which tours fit your kind of trip
Only time for Arenal or Monteverde
Pick La Fortuna if you want variety in one base: the waterfall, volcano and hot springs day, the hanging bridges, a sloth walk and a day trip to Río Celeste. Pick Monteverde if cloud forest, big ziplines and night walks are the priority. Prices in La Fortuna were mostly lower on GetYourGuide in our check.
A night hike near Monteverde in November
Most night walks last about two hours. The Kinkajou walk has the most reviews, a flashlight walk was cheapest at $20, and a small-group refuge walk on Viator rated 4.9. Bring a rain jacket.
Solo, and want to try surfing
Tamarindo is a common place to learn. La Muda's 2-hour lesson was $54 on Viator and $55 on GetYourGuide. The most-reviewed lesson we saw costs more, from $69. After a lesson, a Rincón de la Vieja day is a good non-beach day from the same coast.
Flying into Liberia and heading to La Fortuna
Río Celeste sits roughly between the two. From the coast, Native's Way's Río Celeste and sloth day picks up in northwest Costa Rica. Once in La Fortuna, Red Lava's Río Celeste day was cheapest. If you are staying on the coast, Klook's Arenal day from Guanacaste saves the drive, though it's a 12-hour day.
Families with young kids
Short, flat walks work best: a 2.5-hour sloth walk in La Fortuna, the self-guided hanging bridges or a 2–2.5-hour Manuel Antonio walk that ends at the beach. Klook's sloth and waterfall day from the Guanacaste beaches is another option. Check age limits before booking a zipline.
Booking tips
- Match the company name. Red Lava TSC (Arenal, morning hike, Río Celeste), Místico Park (bridges), Bogarín Trail (sloths), Calypso Adventures (zipline) and La Muda Surf (surf lesson) sell the same tour on both big sites at different prices.
- Book Manuel Antonio tickets early. The naturalist walk listing says tickets sell out fast from December to April and must be bought online.
- Río Celeste depends on the weather. Heavy rain can cloud the blue water, and swimming isn't allowed in the river inside the national park. Check the forecast and the cancellation terms of your Río Celeste tour.
- Look at the cancellation terms, not just the price. The Místico guided walk costs $54 on both sites, but Viator's listing says all sales are final, while GetYourGuide's allows free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead. The surf lesson and Red Lava's Arenal day also allow free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead.
