Hawaii This Winter: Best-Value Tours on Oahu, the Big Island and Maui Compared (Viator vs GetYourGuide vs Klook)
The booking sites block automated price checks, so we read the prices from search-engine copies of each listing. For most rows only the search engine's summary of the page was available, so treat those prices and ratings as rough, and some copies may be older than our check date. "From" means the lowest date or option. Prices are in US dollars as shown. Where a site didn't show a price or we couldn't find a listing, we say so. Always confirm the live price for your dates before you book.
Hawaii trip-planning threads this week have been about trips that are coming up fast: a first visit to Honolulu this week, a honeymoon next week with a worrying rain forecast, a group heading to the Kona side of the Big Island over the holidays, a mid-December stay in Waikiki, and a couple planning an Oahu wedding with a few days of adventure afterwards. The bookings people ask about — a Pearl Harbor tour, a circle island day trip, a luau like Ka Moana or Chief's Luau, a North Shore shark cage dive, a Waikiki surf lesson, the Kona manta ray night snorkel, a Kealakekua Bay snorkel trip and a Haleakala sunrise tour on Maui — are sold on Viator, GetYourGuide and Klook, sometimes by the same operator at different prices. We matched the most popular versions so you can compare before you book.
The short answer
- Viator had the lowest "from" price in 5 of 9 rows: Chief's Luau (from $140), the North Shore shark cage dive (from about $99), the Kona manta ray night snorkel ($89), a Kealakekua Bay snorkel trip with lunch (from $85) and the Haleakala sunrise tour (about $245). It also had the most reviews in almost every row.
- Klook was cheapest in 3: the Oahu circle island tour (US$84.35, a dollar under Viator's $85), the Ka Moana Luau (from US$107.19, but check which package that is) and the Waikiki surf lesson (US$107.75).
- GetYourGuide was cheapest in 1: the Pearl Harbor and USS Arizona Memorial tour from Waikiki, from $58 — a dollar less than the same Karma Tours trip on Viator.
- The gaps are small on Oahu and bigger on the neighbor islands. Pearl Harbor was $58–61 everywhere, but the Haleakala sunrise ran from about $245 to $280 and the Kealakekua snorkel from $85 to $115, mostly because different operators sell them.
Hawaii in November and December
- Pearl Harbor reservations: the National Park Service says the USS Arizona Memorial boat program runs daily, every 15 minutes from 8 am to noon and 1 to 3:30 pm, and same-day tickets are no longer handed out at the visitor center. A Pearl Harbor tour includes the reservation, or book it yourself on Recreation.gov. One Klook listing still shows an old notice about the memorial being closed for preservation work, so confirm boat access for your date. The visitor center is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
- No bags at Pearl Harbor: the Karma Tours listing says to bring only a phone and what fits in your pockets.
- Luau nights: Chief's Luau is closed on Tuesdays and Saturdays except on select dates, according to a reseller's listing, so check the calendar before you plan around it.
- Haleakala is cold: sunrise tours pick up around 2 to 2:30 am, the summit is cold and windy, and a clear sunrise isn't guaranteed. Bring proper warm layers even in a beach week.

Best-value picks by activity
Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial
Lowest "from" price we saw: GetYourGuide, from $58 (4.3 from 272) for Karma Tours' half-day trip from Waikiki with a reserved memorial boat ticket. The same operator's tour on Viator was from $59.00, with far more reviews (4.5 from 4,238). Klook's tour adds the Punchbowl cemetery and downtown Honolulu for US$60.75 (4.2 from 26).
Reviewers on the Viator listing like the drivers' stories on the way but say the time at the memorial itself can feel short, and that the museums and submarine cost extra.
An Oahu circle island day
Lowest "from" price we saw: Klook's full-day circle island tour, US$84.35 (4.5 from 49), which includes snorkel gear and Wi-Fi and stops at Turtle Beach and the Dole Plantation. Viator's Grand Circle Island Experience was a dollar more, from $85, and has the strongest reviews of any tour in this post (4.9 from 2,431). GetYourGuide's small-group North Shore tour was from $139 (4.1 from 37) and is shorter, about 6.5 hours.
A luau
Two luaus came up most. Ka Moana Luau is at Aloha Tower in downtown Honolulu, much closer to Waikiki than Kapolei. Lowest "from" price we saw: Klook, from US$107.19, but the package wasn't stated and the luau's own classic package is listed from $129, so check what you're getting. Viator was about $135–148 (4.2 from about 1,050–1,300); reviewers praise the show but are mixed on the food.
Chief's Luau at Wet 'n' Wild in Kapolei has the better reviews (4.7 from 3,048 on Viator), from $140 on Viator and from $182 on GetYourGuide. Transport from Waikiki costs extra on some options, so compare totals.
A North Shore shark cage dive
Lowest "from" price we saw: North Shore Shark Adventures on Viator, from about $99, a 1.5-hour trip from Haleiwa Harbor. The same operator was US$99.49 on Klook (4.7 from 14). GetYourGuide's 2-hour cage dive with a different operator was from $122 (4.7 from 70) but includes hotel pickup, which matters if you don't have a car, since the North Shore is on the far side of the island from Waikiki. You don't need to be a strong swimmer, and people who'd rather not get in can watch from the boat.
A Waikiki surf lesson
Hans Hedemann Surf School sells the same 2-hour beginner group lesson on all three sites. Lowest "from" price we saw: Klook, US$107.75 (4.0 from 7). Viator was about $110–112 with the most reviews (4.7 from about 515), and GetYourGuide from $112. It's for teens and adults who can swim.
The Kona manta ray night snorkel
Lowest "from" price we saw: Viator's night snorkel from Keauhou Harbor, $89 (4.7 from 2,172). GetYourGuide's version was from $95 (about 4.2–4.5 from roughly 100 reviews). Klook's 2-hour trip didn't show a price in our check. Most of these "guarantees" mean a free rebooking if no mantas show up, not a refund, so book it early in your stay.
Kealakekua Bay snorkeling
Lowest "from" price we saw: Viator's power catamaran trip with lunch, from $85 (4.9 from about 1,810), about four hours from Honokohau Harbor. It doesn't include hotel pickup. GetYourGuide's Captain Cook snorkel tour with Dolphin Discoveries was from $115 (4.6 from 64), and Klook's Zodiac raft and snorkel trip visits sea caves on the way but didn't show a price in our check.
Haleakala sunrise on Maui
Lowest "from" price we saw: Polynesian Adventure's sunrise tour on Viator, about $245.03 (4.6 from 1,855), with hotel pickup and breakfast. The same operator was about US$254.45 on Klook. GetYourGuide's tour with Valley Isle Excursions was from $280 (4.6 from 14). Reviewers say it's a long, very early day and the sunrise can be clouded over, but they rate the guides highly.
Which tours fit your kind of trip
A first trip to Honolulu, this week or next
With only a few days, a Pearl Harbor tour (from $58–59) is the easiest way to get a memorial boat slot at short notice, since same-day tickets are gone. Add a circle island day (from about $85) to see the North Shore and the turtles without renting a car, and finish with a luau close to Waikiki like Ka Moana.
Honeymoons and weddings
For a couple who want a bit of adventure after the ceremony, the shark cage dive (from about $99), a Waikiki surf lesson (about $110) and an evening at Chief's Luau fill an Oahu week well. If you're adding Maui, the Haleakala sunrise is the classic early start — plan it for a day when you can nap afterwards.
A group on the Big Island's Kona side
The Kealakekua Bay snorkel trip (from $85, lunch included) is a good daytime outing for a mixed group, and the manta ray night snorkel ($89) is the Kona trip people ask about most. Check the age limits, swimming requirements and any ride-along option for non-snorkelers on each listing before you book for a group.
Worried about a rainy forecast
Ocean trips can be rescheduled when conditions are rough, so choose options with free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead, keep the Pearl Harbor visit (museums and film are indoors) for the wettest day, and save the shark dive or surf lesson for a calmer one.
Booking tips
- Match the operator name. Karma Tours (the Pearl Harbor tour), North Shore Shark Adventures (the shark dive), Hans Hedemann (the surf lesson) and Polynesian Adventure (the Haleakala sunrise) sell the same trip on more than one site.
- Check pickup. The cheapest Kealakekua snorkel trip has no hotel pickup, and North Shore trips like the shark dive start on the far side of Oahu from Waikiki, so add transport to the price if you don't have a car.
- Compare luau packages, not just prices. The Ka Moana and Chief's luaus have several seating tiers, and transport is often extra.
- Read the "guarantee". On the manta ray snorkel, a no-sighting guarantee usually means a free second trip, which only helps if you have another night on the island.
- Book Pearl Harbor early for December. Viator marks its Pearl Harbor tour as likely to sell out and says it's booked about 37 days ahead on average.
