Iceland in Winter: Best-Value Tours Compared (Viator vs GetYourGuide vs Klook)
The booking sites block automated price checks, so we read the prices from search-engine copies of each listing page. Some of those copies may be days or weeks older than our check date. "From" means the lowest date or option. Prices are in the currency the page showed (we didn't convert them). Always confirm the live price for your dates before you book.
Planning a winter trip to Iceland? Many of the most popular tours (the northern lights bus, the Golden Circle, Elding whale watching, the Jökulsárlón ice caves) are run by the same local operator but sold on Viator, GetYourGuide and Klook at different prices. We matched them up so you can see the difference before you book.
The short answer
- Viator often showed the lowest "from" price for big, high-volume tours from the same operator (BusTravel Iceland, Elding), typically by about $8–19 per person.
- GetYourGuide had by far the most reviews on most matched tours, which helps if you want lots of feedback before you book. It was cheapest for the Katla ice cave from Vík.
- Klook sometimes runs sales (we saw "Sale 30% off" autumn deals), but many of its Iceland listings didn't show a price we could check, and it often doesn't name the operator.
Same tour, three sites
Each row is the same tour (same operator, or same product) found on two or three sites. Ratings are shown as score out of 5 (number of reviews). The highlighted cell is the lowest price we saw.

Notes: the Blue Lagoon admission price is set by Blue Lagoon itself, so the gap there is likely down to currency, date or the transfer, not a real discount. Some figures came from a search engine's summary of the page rather than the page text, so treat them as rough. Where the same tour is also sold by the operator directly, we've mentioned the direct price in Icelandic krónur (ISK) below.
Best-value picks by activity
Northern lights
Budget: BusTravel Northern Lights Bus on Viator, from $62.00, 4.0 (906). If you don't see the lights, you can go again for free.
Small group with photos: Nordur Travel 4x4 Minibus on Viator, from $138.96, 5.0 (122), max 19 travelers, with pastries, cocoa and photos. The same tour was $152 on GetYourGuide.
Ice caves (Vatnajökull, from Jökulsárlón)
Most reviewed: Crystal Ice Cave Super Jeep (Arctic Adventures) on GetYourGuide, from $169, 4.2 (1,762), about 2.5 hours. Reviewers scored its value for money lower than its overall rating.
Better rated: Ice Cave Small-Group Tour from Jökulsárlón, from $173, 4.9 (236), listed on Viator's Höfn tours page. Reviews of a cheaper big-group cave tour on Viator ($157) mention crowding and short time in the cave.
Ice cave season depends on conditions; one operator lists its season as October to April.
Splurge: ice cave + glacier hike
Glacier Hike to a Remote Ice Cave (Ice Walkers) on GetYourGuide, from $279 (was $310), 4.9 (270), 6 hours. A small group by 4x4, with ice canyons and fewer crowds.
Glacier hikes
Sólheimajökull (south coast): Sólheimajökull small-group hike on Klook, US$108.45, 4.7 (only 13 reviews). For more reviews, the Arctic Adventures version on Viator showed SGD 152.99, 4.8 (463). These are similar hikes, not a confirmed exact match.
Near Jökulsárlón / Skaftafell: Falljökull Easy Group Hike, $103, 4.6 (1,719), on GetYourGuide, or Ice Exploration Tour from the Glacier Lagoon, $129, 5.0 (128), on Viator.
Golden Circle
BusTravel Golden Circle + Kerið on Viator, from $73, 8.5 hours, Kerið entry included. That's the cheapest of the three sites for this tour. Smaller group: Golden Circle & Kerið small-group tour on Viator, from $104, 4.8 (767).
On GetYourGuide, the listing notes that departures at 12:00 or later skip Kerið.
South Coast
Full-Day South Coast, Black Beach & Waterfalls on GetYourGuide, from $128, 10.5 hours (the lowest we saw), or South Iceland Guided Tour on Klook, US$132.69, 4.7 (159).
Lagoons and hot springs
Sky Lagoon came out cheaper than the Blue Lagoon: Sky Lagoon pass on Viator, from $104 (up to $121 depending on pass and snapshot), 4.6 (1,758). On GetYourGuide it was $119–120.
Blue Lagoon Comfort + transfer: Viator, from €168.09, vs about $215–220 on GetYourGuide and US$220.49 on Klook.
Sightseeing + soak in one day: Golden Circle & Secret Lagoon, $129 on GetYourGuide or US$132.45 on Klook.
Snowmobiling
Golden Circle and Glacier Snowmobiling on Viator, from $267, a full day that combines both. GetYourGuide's Langjökull snowmobiling with transfer was $292–293 (was $325), with 2 people per snowmobile.
Whale watching
Elding Original Classic Whale Watching on Viator, from $93.45, 4.6 (2,202). The same tour was $99 on GetYourGuide. Expect rougher seas in winter.
Snæfellsnes Peninsula
BusTravel's full-day tour was $143 on both GetYourGuide and Viator. For something more unusual: Snæfellsnes & Lava Cave on Viator, $215, 4.8 (268), 12.5 hours.
Unusual winter experiences
Katla ice cave + super jeep from Vík on GetYourGuide, from $188–191, 4.6 (2,349). It runs year-round, so it doesn't depend on the winter ice-cave season.
Silfra snorkeling between tectonic plates, meet on location, on Viator, from $119. You wear a drysuit, and there are swimming, fitness and size requirements. The operator (DIVE.IS) lists 19,990 ISK direct.
Raufarhólshellir Lava Tunnel on Viator, from $59.39, 1 hour. The operator lists 8,900 ISK direct.
Icelandic horse riding in lava fields (Íshestar) on GetYourGuide, $129–130, 4.8 (~2,000).
Which tours fit your kind of trip
These are questions winter travelers have actually been asking. Here's how we'd approach each one.
"We won't have a car"
Stick to tours with Reykjavík pickup. A cheap base: the Golden Circle ($73), the northern lights bus ($62.00) and whale watching ($93.45), all on Viator. Add the South Coast day ($128, GetYourGuide). For a bucket-list day, Golden Circle + snowmobiling ($267) or Silfra snorkeling with pickup ($194), both on Viator. Want Jökulsárlón without driving? Klook lists a South Coast, Diamond Beach & Jökulsárlón day tour from Reykjavík at US$169.25. It's a very long day, rated 3.9 from just 13 reviews.
Couples: "a fun physical activity, then hot springs"
Pair a Sólheimajökull glacier hike (about US$108 on Klook, SGD 153 on Viator) or Silfra snorkeling ($119, meet on location) with an evening at Sky Lagoon (from $104). If you'd rather not drive in the winter dark, the Golden Circle & Secret Lagoon tour ($129) does sightseeing and a soak in one day.
Traveling with older parents
Choose shorter, lower-effort options. The Crystal Ice Cave super jeep from Jökulsárlón is about 2.5 hours and costs $169–170 (GetYourGuide or Klook). The Ice Exploration Tour from the Glacier Lagoon on Viator is $129, rated 5.0 (128). Check each listing's fitness and mobility notes before booking, since ice caves can involve uneven, slippery ground.
Budget northern lights
The best value we found is the BusTravel Northern Lights Bus on Viator at $62.00, with a free second try if the lights don't show. A few listings were cheaper, but with weaker ratings: a GetYourGuide tour at $79 rated 3.7, and a Klook tour at US$58.29 rated 3.6 from only 5 reviews. Small-group photo tours run about $139–165 if you want fewer people and pictures taken for you.
"Is the 7-day Ring Road tour too rushed?"
The BusTravel 7-Day Around Iceland Ring Road & Snæfellsnes is on GetYourGuide from $2,247 per person, with 6 hotel nights, breakfasts and some lunches and dinners. We didn't find it on Viator or Klook. BusTravel also sells it directly for 299,990 ISK (289,990 ISK in another snapshot), so compare the two at checkout.
If you want more included activities, the Arctic Adventures 6-Day Around Iceland on Viator is from $2,413, 4.8 (537), and includes a glacier hike, whale watching and the Mývatn baths. For comparison, Viator reviewers of a different 7-day tour (Arctic Adventures 7-Day Complete Iceland, $2,735, 4.4 from 122) said it "can feel rushed". Any week-long loop in winter daylight covers a lot of driving.
Booking tips
- Check your exact date. "From" prices are the cheapest date or option, and your date may cost more.
- Watch the currency. Some sites showed EUR, GBP or SGD depending on the page version. Set the currency to yours before comparing.
- Check who runs the tour. If the operator name matches, it's usually the same tour, so the cheapest site is the better deal. Klook often doesn't show the operator.
- Look at the operator's own site for the big multi-day tours, which are sometimes sold direct in ISK.
- Read the cancellation terms. Winter weather cancels tours, so free cancellation is worth a few dollars.
