Mexico City in November: Best-Value Tours to Teotihuacan, Xochimilco, Lucha Libre and Day of the Dead Compared (Viator vs GetYourGuide vs Klook)
Viator prices and ratings come from Viator's partner data, and GetYourGuide's from its listing pages (one from its search results), all read just after midnight Pacific time on Oct 22. Klook blocks automated checks, so we link the Klook listings we found without a price. "From" means the lowest date or option, which can leave out lunch, museum tickets, pickup or tips. Prices are in US dollars as shown. Always confirm the live price for your dates before you book.
Mexico City questions came up a lot this week. Several people land around the first of November, when the city decorates for Day of the Dead. Others are coming solo, with a bachelorette group, or for a long weekend with a parent in December, and one wants to hike a volcano at sunrise. The tours they ask about, from Teotihuacan and Xochimilco to lucha libre, Iztaccíhuatl and Day of the Dead, are mostly sold by the same local companies on Viator and GetYourGuide, and several are on Klook too. We matched them so you can compare before you book.
The short answer
- Viator had the lowest "from" price in 6 of 14 rows, mostly Amigo Tours trips: the early-access Teotihuacan tour ($40.60 vs $68), the Teotihuacan and Basilica day ($48.75 vs $64), the Xochimilco, Coyoacán and Frida Kahlo day ($39.90 vs $52), the lucha libre night ($52 vs $69) and the Day of the Dead tour ($71.10 vs $89). Secret Food Tours' food tour was $62.80 vs $87.
- GetYourGuide was cheapest in 3, by a few dollars or less: the historic center walk ($24), the vegan street food tour ($91) and the bike tour ($64).
- Five were ties: the Teotihuacan balloon flight ($149), Chapultepec Castle and the Anthropology Museum ($83), Tolantongo ($132), Puebla and Cholula ($55) and the Iztaccíhuatl hike ($168).
- Klook has the same or a similar tour in 8 rows, plus a different Day of the Dead tour, including the Teotihuacan and Basilica tour and the Puebla day trip, but we couldn't confirm any Klook prices.
What the "from" price leaves out
- Lunch and museum tickets: on the Xochimilco and Frida Kahlo day and the Puebla trip, lunch is only in some options. The Frida Kahlo Museum ticket is also only in some options of the Xochimilco day.
- Food and drinks: the Amigo lucha libre night says food and drinks at cantinas and taquerías cost extra, so bring cash. El Taco Club's night includes dinner and drinks.
- Meals on day trips: the Tolantongo day only includes a box lunch if you choose it, and the Iztaccíhuatl hike includes no food at all.
- Tips: the Teotihuacan and food tour listings say gratuities aren't included.

Best-value picks by activity
Teotihuacan, early
Lowest "from" price we saw: Amigo Tours' early-access Teotihuacan tour on Viator, from $40.60 (4.7 from 6,203), against from $68 for the early-access tour with optional lunch on GetYourGuide (4.6 from 1,922). GetYourGuide's tour page wouldn't load for us, so that price comes from its search results. Viator's listing includes the guide, transport from the meeting point and the Teotihuacan entry ticket. Lunch is a box lunch only if you pick that option, and drinks and tips are extra.
Klook lists a tour with the same name, but we couldn't see its price.
Teotihuacan with the Basilica of Guadalupe
Lowest "from" price we saw: Amigo Tours' Teotihuacan, Guadalupe Shrine and Tlatelolco day on Viator, from $48.75 with 12,451 reviews (4.8), against from $64 for the Teotihuacan, Tlatelolco and Basilica of Guadalupe tour on GetYourGuide (4.7 from 1,360). Viator's listing includes the Teotihuacan entry, a tequila tasting for over-18s and, on some departures, a buffet or barbacoa lunch. Drinks are extra.
The same company's Teotihuacan and Guadalupe Shrine tour with lunch was from $63 on GetYourGuide (4.7 from 5,513). On Viator, a similar Teotihuacan, Basilica and Tlatelolco tour by another company was from $41.38 (4.7 from 1,549). Klook sells a tour with the same name too.
A balloon flight over Teotihuacan
Lowest "from" price we saw: a tie at $149 for Amigo Tours' flight on GetYourGuide (4.6 from 1,279) and Viator (4.8 from 357). The pyramids and Basilica tour is an add-on option. Viator's listing includes breakfast and a flight certificate, and says Mexican rules require each flyer's name and weight.
Cheaper flights by other companies are on Viator: Aerostat's balloon flight with a cave breakfast and pyramids tour was from $110.42 (5.0 from 764), but its listing charges extra above 100 kg (220 lb). Viaja Teotihuacan's flight with breakfast and pickup was from $149.12 with 8,136 reviews (4.9). Klook has a similar balloon and Basilica day without a price we could confirm.
Xochimilco, Coyoacán and the Frida Kahlo Museum
Lowest "from" price we saw: Amigo Tours' Xochimilco, Coyoacán and Frida Kahlo day on Viator, from $39.90 (4.5 from 8,372), against from $52 for the same tour on GetYourGuide (4.5 from 4,010). Viator's listing says the museum ticket and lunch are only in some options. It also warns that Casa Kahlo, a newer museum, isn't the same as the Frida Kahlo Museum (the Blue House).
For a smaller group, Friends Guides' small-group Frida Kahlo Museum and Xochimilco tour was from $60.00 on Viator (4.9 from 1,278). Klook lists a tour with the same name as Amigo's.
A lucha libre night
Lowest "from" price we saw: Amigo Tours' lucha libre walk, tequila and arena show on Viator, from $52.00 (4.3 from 46), against from $69 for the same night on GetYourGuide (4.6 from 211). Viator's listing says shows are at Arena México on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and at Arena Coliseo on Saturdays, with no cameras allowed inside and no children under 12.
With far more reviews, El Taco Club's lucha libre tickets with tacos, beer and mezcal was from $96.00 on Viator (4.9 from 2,139), and it includes dinner and drinks. On GetYourGuide, Trekzy's Mexican evening with lucha libre and tequila was from $68 (4.6 from 771). Klook has a lucha libre, mariachi and tequila night.
The historic center on foot
Lowest "from" price we saw: Mexico a Pie's Historic Center Essentials walk on GetYourGuide, from $24 (4.8 from 1,348), 59 cents under the same walk on Viator at from $24.59 (4.9 from 1,488). Viator's listing says it's wheelchair and stroller friendly, and that most sights are seen from outside except the Cathedral.
Kactus' historic center walking tour was from $28.00 on Viator (4.8 from 1,237). We didn't find either walk on Klook.
A street food tour
Lowest "from" price we saw: Secret Food Tours' historic center food tour on Viator, from $62.80 (5.0 from 1,029), against from $87 for the same tour on GetYourGuide (4.8 from 159). The Viator listing asks you to send dietary needs ahead of time.
Vegan and vegetarian street food
Lowest "from" price we saw: Travelling Herbivore's vegan and vegetarian street food tour on GetYourGuide, from $91 (4.9 from 91), against from $95.00 for the same tour on Viator (4.8 from 199). Viator's listing says it's all-you-can-eat, has gluten-free options and is wheelchair accessible.
The city by bike
Lowest "from" price we saw: TourbikeandfoodCDMX's 19 City Highlights bike tour on GetYourGuide, from $64 (5.0 from 371), against from $66.30 for the same ride on Viator (5.0 from 551). Helmets and bikes are included. Viator's listing asks for a moderate fitness level.
Chapultepec Castle and the Anthropology Museum
Lowest "from" price we saw: a tie at $83 for Amigo Tours' castle and museum tour on GetYourGuide (4.7 from 823) and Viator (4.5 from 1,500). Viator's listing includes both tickets and a guide, involves about 3 km (1.8 miles) of walking, and doesn't allow backpacks, food or drinks inside.
Cheaper on Viator: a 5-hour Chapultepec, Anthropology Museum and castle tour from $57.24 (4.9 from 339). Mexico a Pie's private Anthropology Museum tour with entry was from $77.35 (5.0 from 421).
Grutas de Tolantongo
Lowest "from" price we saw: a tie at $132 for Amigo Tours' day trip on GetYourGuide (4.7 from 724) and Viator (4.6 from 353). It's a 14-hour day. The listing includes entry and transport, but says to bring cash for meals, swimwear and water shoes, plus your passport.
Mexican Tales' early, express Tolantongo trip on Viator costs 60 cents more (from $132.60) and has better reviews (4.9 from 682). Amigo also sells a guided Tolantongo day on GetYourGuide from $132 (4.8 from 104). Klook has a similar Tolantongo tour.
Puebla, Cholula and Tonantzintla
Lowest "from" price we saw: a tie at $55 for Amigo Tours' day trip on GetYourGuide (4.5 from 1,532) and Viator (4.5 from 1,923). The listing includes transport and the Tonantzintla church entry. Lunch is optional, and you need your passport (a photo or copy works). Klook lists the same tour name too.
Hiking Iztaccíhuatl
Lowest "from" price we saw: a tie at $168 for Amigo Tours' hike with an alpinist on GetYourGuide (4.3 from 157) and Viator (4.1 from 246). The listing covers transport, park entry and the guide, but not food or hiking gear. It says sneakers and shorts aren't suitable.
Ratings are lower than for most tours here. México Travesías' trek between Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl was cheaper on Viator, from $132.60 (4.8 from 129), and includes lunch and trekking poles. Klook's Iztaccíhuatl hike with an alpinist says it isn't open to children under 16.
A Day of the Dead tour
Lowest "from" price we saw: Amigo Tours' Day of the Dead tour on Viator, from $71.10, against from $89 (down from $99) for the same tour on GetYourGuide. Both have low ratings: 3.5 from 78 on Viator and 3.4 from 97 on GetYourGuide. The listing includes a cemetery visit, a trajinera ride and mariachi, and doesn't allow children under 12.
MEXITOURS' Mixquic Day of the Dead trip was from $120 on GetYourGuide (4.4 from 17). Klook's Day of the Dead immersive tour is a different experience, and we couldn't see its price. Check that your date is offered before you book.
Which tours fit your kind of trip
Arriving around November 1 for Day of the Dead
A few people asked about the first week of November, and one wants engagement photos among the marigolds. The Day of the Dead tour is the obvious pick, but its ratings are weak, so compare the Mixquic trip. You can also see the Xochimilco canals on the Xochimilco and Coyoacán day and walk the decorated center on the $24 historic center walk.
A sunrise volcano hike
Amigo Tours' Iztaccíhuatl hike with an alpinist costs $168 on Viator and GetYourGuide, but it's rated 4.1–4.3. México Travesías' volcano trek with lunch was $132.60 on Viator and rated 4.8. Either way you need real mountain clothes and your passport.
First visit, solo
Start with the historic center walk, then join the Secret Food Tours food tour or the 19 City Highlights bike tour to meet people. For a night out, El Taco Club's lucha libre night has more reviews than any other lucha tour we saw. The Teotihuacan and Basilica day is an easy group day trip.
A bachelorette or birthday group
A trajinera party on the canals is the classic group outing: Experiences_Mx's Xochimilco boat party with guacamole and unlimited drinks was from $62.00 on Viator (4.9 from 1,248). Add a lucha libre night with tacos and mezcal. For a birthday splurge, the Aerostat balloon flight was the cheapest flight we saw.
A long weekend with a parent in December
Mix one big day out with easy city time. The Puebla and Cholula day trip is $55 on both big sites. Chapultepec Castle and the Anthropology Museum keeps you in the city, and the Teotihuacan balloon flight makes a memorable birthday morning.
Vegetarian or vegan
Travelling Herbivore's vegan and vegetarian street food tour was $91 on GetYourGuide. On other food tours, such as the historic center food tour, send your dietary needs ahead.
Booking tips
- Match the company name. Amigo Tours is behind 10 of our 14 rows, including the Teotihuacan and Basilica day, the Xochimilco and Frida Kahlo day and the Puebla day trip, and sells them on both Viator and GetYourGuide. Klook lists several under the same names. Mexico a Pie (walking tour), Secret Food Tours (food tour), Travelling Herbivore (vegan food tour) and TourbikeandfoodCDMX (bike tour) are on both big sites too.
- Bring your passport on day trips. The Puebla, Tolantongo and Iztaccíhuatl listings say you need it, or a photo of the page with your entry stamp.
- Check which Frida museum you get. The Xochimilco and Coyoacán day includes only one Frida Kahlo museum ticket, and only in some options.
- Balloon flights need your weight. The Amigo balloon listing says it's required by law, and Aerostat charges extra above 100 kg.
- Free cancellation is common. Every Viator listing in our table, from the early-access Teotihuacan tour to the bike tour, gives a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours ahead. Check each GetYourGuide listing, such as the Tolantongo day, for its terms.
