Puerto Rico This Winter: Best-Value Tours in San Juan, El Yunque, Fajardo, Vieques and Culebra Compared (Viator vs GetYourGuide vs Klook)
Viator prices and ratings come from Viator's partner data, and GetYourGuide's from its listing pages, all read around noon Pacific time on Oct 21. Klook blocks automated checks and we found only one Klook listing in Puerto Rico, with no price we could confirm. "From" means the lowest date or option, which can leave out pickup, park fees or tips. Prices are in US dollars as shown. Always confirm the live price for your dates before you book.
Puerto Rico trip questions kept coming up this week. A couple with a toddler and a baby, staying in Fajardo in January, want family-friendly day trips. Honeymooners heading to Vieques in March want a clear-bottom bio bay tour and a beginner snorkel. A first-time solo traveler arrives next week, another couple wants to see Arecibo and has heard about a river float, and someone is taking the ferry to Culebra. The tours they ask about, from the Fajardo bio bay and El Yunque to Icacos Island, Culebra, Old San Juan and turtle snorkeling, are sold on Viator and GetYourGuide, usually by the same local company. We matched them so you can compare before you book.
The short answer
- Viator had the lowest "from" price in 6 of 12 rows: Spotin Tours' half-day El Yunque ($25 vs $32) and its El Yunque day from San Juan ($45 vs $58), a Vieques clear canoe ($57), East Island's Culebra catamaran ($180 vs $185), the Charco Azul cave day ($125 vs $150) and Casa Bacardí by 40 cents.
- GetYourGuide was cheapest in 2: Kayaking Puerto Rico's Fajardo bio bay kayak ($72 vs $89 on Viator) and Aventureo's Río Tanamá tubing ($95 vs $110).
- Four were ties: the Icacos catamaran ($155), Patria's Old San Juan and El Morro walk ($54), the Flavors of San Juan food tour ($170) and the Escambrón turtle snorkel ($39).
- Klook barely covers Puerto Rico. The only listing we could find was a half-day snorkel at Punta Arenas on Vieques, and we couldn't confirm its price.
What the "from" price leaves out
- Transport to El Yunque: the cheapest half-day El Yunque tour needs your own car, and Uber and taxis can't drive in. Without a car, pick a tour with transport from San Juan.
- Hotel pickup: the Icacos and Culebra catamarans leave from Fajardo. Viator's listings exclude hotel pickup, and the Icacos listing says transport from San Juan costs extra.
- Tips and parking: the Icacos sail listing says 10–15% gratuity is customary, and the turtle snorkel lists a $7 parking fee if you drive.

Which tours fit your kind of trip
Staying in Fajardo with a toddler and a baby
Most boat and kayak tours set age limits: the Fajardo bio bay kayak starts at 6, the Icacos sail doesn't take children under 4, and the turtle snorkel starts at 8. Easier picks with little ones are Patria's Old San Juan and El Morro walk, which says strollers are fine, or Adventure Vieques' clear canoe tour, whose listing says infants ride on an adult's lap. If family can babysit, the adults could slip out for the bio bay one evening.
Honeymoon on Vieques
Mosquito Bay is the reason most couples go. Alikei Adventures' kayak tour (4.8) and the clear canoe tour were the best-value Viator picks, and Salty Spirit's clear kayaks were the pricier GetYourGuide option. For a beginner snorkel, Klook lists a half-day trip at Punta Arenas, though we couldn't see its price.
First trip, solo, no car
Base yourself in San Juan. Start with a $24 Old San Juan walk or the El Morro walk, add the food tour if you'd like company for a meal, and book a small-group El Yunque day with transport. The Escambrón turtle snorkel starts in the city, but you need to be able to swim.
Arecibo, the north coast and Rincón
The river float people mention is likely the Río Tanamá: Aventureo's tubing and cave tour was $95 on GetYourGuide. It's a strenuous half day for ages 12 and up. On a calmer day, the Charco Azul cave and waterfall trip picks up in San Juan.
Culebra on your own or with a tour
The ferry from Ceiba is the cheapest way over, but a tour saves the ticket hunt. East Island's Culebra catamaran includes lunch, drinks and snorkel gear from $180, and Sail Getaway's power boat gets there faster from $195.
A birthday group in San Juan
A catamaran day to Icacos with lunch and drinks, the Spoon sunset food tour or a Casa Bacardí tour (adults only) all work well for groups. Prices are the same on both big sites for most of them, so compare cancellation terms and group options.
Booking tips
- Match the company name. Kayaking Puerto Rico (bio bay), Spotin Tours (El Yunque), East Island Excursions (Icacos, Culebra), Patria Tours (Old San Juan), Flavors of San Juan (food tour) and Aventureo PR (river tubing) sell the same tour on both sites, sometimes at different prices.
- Check the moon before you book a bio bay. The glow shows up best on dark nights, and Puerto Rico Bio Bay Tours sells a lagoon or full moon kayak tour on GetYourGuide (from $85, 4.6 from 274) as separate options. Book the bio bay early in your trip so you can rebook if it's cloudy.
- Plan for the weather at sea. East Island's Icacos and Culebra listings warn that the water can be choppy and the boat can change with the weather.
- Free cancellation is common. All the GetYourGuide listings in our table, including the El Yunque day and the turtle snorkel, allow free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead. Check the Viator terms on each listing, such as the Bacardí tour, before you book.
